Turkey welcomes Somali decision to hold elections

Turkey welcomed a decision by the Somali parliament on May 1 that would see elections held in the Horn of Africa nation as soon as possible.

"We welcome the decision of the Lower House of the Somali Parliament today [1 May], which endorses holding the elections on the basis of the 17 September agreement as soon as possible," said the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Berlin dismisses Turkish proposal for two-state settlement on Cyprus

The German foreign ministry has weighed in on the as yet fruitless effort to reach a Cyprus settlement, rejecting the position of Ankara and the Turkish Cypriot community which is a two-state solution that effectively recognises de jure the 46-year Turkish occupation of over one-third of the island following its 1974 invasion and occupation.

Slovenia supports plans for EU’s future financial development

Ljubljana – Foreign Ministry State Secretary Stanislav Raščan took part in a meeting of ministers in charge of development cooperation on Thursday, discussing the EU’s future financial development architecture. They called for more cooperation among financial institutions, noting that no major systemic changes were necessary, the Foreign Ministry said.
