Center-right party GERB has vowed to include Bulgarian Muslims as candidates for the 2014 European elections to challenge the monopoly of liberal party DPS.

The Sofia City Court sentenced Filip Zlatanov, former Chair of the Commission on Prevention and Ascertainment of Conflict of Interest (CPACI), to three-and-a-half years in prison.

The trial, which started on March 31, involved a covered-up probe of President Rosen Plevneliev and delayed decisions on two other cases, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio.

Bulgarian lawmakers adopted at first reading changes to the recently-approved Election Code, adding one member to the Central Electoral Commission.

The election watchdog will increase its staff from 19 to 20 if the measure voted on Thursday gains further support.

The center-right opposition party GERB said it will seek at least six seats in the European Parliament.
