Probe launched into Albania shooting
An Athens prosecutor is to launch an investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting of an ethnic Greek man by police in southern Albania on Sunday after it emerged that the 35-year-old had Greek citizenship.

Anti-racism rallies held ahead of anniversary of Fyssas stabbing
Anti-racism rallies were held in Athens and several other Greek cities on Saturday evening ahead of the fifth anniversary of the killing of a leftist rapper by a member of the neofascist Golden Dawn.
The rallies concluded without reports of the clashes between leftist demonstrators and members of right-wing groups that the police had feared.
Donation toward renovations at pediatric clinics
The Australian chapter of The Hellenic Initiative has donated 48,000 dollars (about 30,000 euros) to be used for the renovation of the pediatric clinics of two Greek state hospitals - the general hospitals of Kastoria and Ioannina.
The donation is expected to be the first in a series of donations as part of the organization's cooperation with the charity Pedtrauma.

A crime ring that had been stealing electricity over the last seven months in various parts of the country was unraveled on Friday, according to authorities who said that six men were arrested.
Greek Church dismayed over missionary campaign
The Holy Synod, the governing body of the Greek Orthodox Church, has expressed its dismay over an upcoming campaign by the Hellenic Ministries missionary organization, saying that its flock is in no need of newly emerged "heretic" movements or "self-declared preachers" from home or abroad.

Man caught with 51 kilos of marijuana near Ioannina
A 38-year-old man was arrested on Monday on drug smuggling charges after police found 51 kilograms of marijuana in his car in the region of Pogoni in Ioannina, northwestern Greece.
According to reports, the suspect - an Albanian national - was arrested after a car chase which began after he refused to stop when signaled to do so by police.
Police find antiquities stash in Arta woodland
Working on a tip, police in Ioannina, northwestern Greece, found and seized two rucksacks packed with antiquities in a wooded area in the region of Arta on Wednesday morning.
According to reports, the antiquities date from the Archaic period (beginning in the 8th century BC) to the Byzantine era.
