Türkiye has expressed its support for Denmark's recent move to combat disrespect towards holy books, particularly the Quran.

Dressed in a denim shirt and black jeans, Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt cracked jokes and took selfies with supporters on the island of Bornholm, just days before a June 18 election that could end her political career. 

Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt called on Wednesday an early general election to take place on June 18.

It is expected that her centre-left coalition will face a formidable challenge from the opposition, the BBC reports.

NATO secretary-general Anders Fogh Rasmussen arrives on a two-day visit in Sofia on Thursday afternoon. 

On Friday he will receive the Stara Planina Order by Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev and will have a private meeting with him, said the President's press office.
