Bulgaria also announces beefed up border security

The Bulgarian government reacted to the rising migrant crisis faced by Greece by announcing that it is mobilizing its armed forces and police to better protect its borders.
The move followed scenes at the Greek-fYRoM borders hours earlier, as Syrian refugees and other third world migrants were prevented by armed guards from entering the landlocked country to Greece’s north.

Greek Cyprus tourist arrivals hit record high in July

The number of tourists arriving in Greek Cyprus spiked 8.5 percent in July to a record high for that month, led by a surge in British visitors attracted by the cheaper euro, official figures showed.

A record 414,527 people arrived in July compared with 381,955 a year earlier, according to figures released on Aug. 20. Arrivals eased 1.5 percent in June.

Serbians advised to stay away from Gevgelija border crossing

The Serbian Foreign Ministry has said it is "not recommending" that Serbians travel via the Gevgelija/Idomeni border crossing between Macedonia and Greece.

This comes as several thousand refugees from the Middle East, stranded at this railroad crossings, on Friday clashed with Macedonian police and soldiers.
