Montenegro's Chief Special Prosecutor for Organized Crime, Milivoje Katnic, on Sunday accused "nationalists in Russia" of having organized a criminal group that was tasked with overthrowing the government on election day on October 16.

BELGRADE - Montenegro's prime minister suggested that Russia was involved in an alleged coup attempt on the country's election day and he accused the opposition of collaborating with the Kremlin.

Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic has announced that he is "leaving all state roles," the Beta agency is reporting.

Djukanovic also said that if his DPS party gets a mandate to form a government, he will be replaced at the cabinet's helm by Dusko Markovic, currently the party's deputy president.

Montenegro's longtime Prime Minister Milo Đukanović will not continue as the government head despite just having won a close election race, a statement by his Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) indicated Tuesday.

Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic said on Tuesday that he felt secure and insisted there was no need to "spread panic among the people" despite the Belgrade authorities' arrest of alleged Serbian plotters against him.

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic says "some individuals" have been detained in Belgrade in connection with the events in Montenegro.

Former Serbian Gendarmerie commander Bratislav Dikic has said that - during his arrest on October 16 for planning a coup in Montenegro - a Montenegrin policeman "planted evidence" on him, namely a phone and keys to a warehouse containing weapons.

Dikic is under arrest in Montenegro for allegedly plotting a coup on election day in Montenegro.

Montenegro's ruling DPS party has accused the country's interior minister, Goran Danilovic, of "siding with terrorists."

Danilovic is an opposition politician who is a member of the transitional government, headed by DPS leader Milo Djukanovic.

The Montenegrin Prosecutor's Office confirmed on Monday that hundreds of criminal complaints had been filed alleging electoral fraud and vote-buying in Sunday's general election, although international observers said thr polls were held in a competitive environment and that fundamental freedoms were generally respected.

PODGORICA — Montenegro's opposition claimed on Monday that an inconclusive parliamentary election was packed with irregularities, including the authorities' blocking of popular messaging services on election day, VOA reports.
