Paris fumigates for tiger mosquitoes as pest spreads in Europe
Health authorities in Paris fumigated areas of the French capital for the first time on Aug. 31 to kill disease-carrying tiger mosquitoes whose rapid advance through northern Europe is thought to have been accelerated by climate change.
‘Quake zone at risk of infections passed on by mosquitoes’
In order to prevent any epidemics, a research study by a group of infectious diseases and public health experts has cautioned that the fight against mosquitoes in the earthquake-affected areas should be carried out extremely thoroughly, especially in high-risk areas for malaria, such as Adana and Mersin provinces.
Greece’s first West Nile case of 2023 detected
The National Public Health Organization (EODY) has officially detected Greece's first case of West Nile, a virus transmitted by mosquitoes, for this year.
According to an announcement on Monday, the case was reported in Irakleia, in Serres, northern Greece.

A Turkish academic has raised the alarm over looming disease threats that could be caused by Asian tiger mosquitos which have recently been seen frequently and especially in Istanbul.
Many complaints have been coming in from Istanbul residents who generally get bitten by the Asian tiger mosquito, a carrier of malaria, yellow fever, the West Nile virus and the Zika virus.
