General Election 2017: MPs back Theresa May’s plan for a snap poll on June 8

MPs have overwhelmingly backed Theresa May’s plan to hold a snap general election on June 8 in a Commons vote the day after her shock announcement.

The House of Commons backed the poll by 522 votes to just 13.

Under the terms of the Fixed-Term Parliaments Act Mrs May needed to secure at least a two-thirds majority of MPs to make her plan become a reality.

A few hours after the first official results from the snap parliamentary elections became known, TV show host Slavi Trifonov threatened the new Parliament with protests unless, in two weeks, it starts working on amendments to the Electoral Code related to the referendum initiated by his team on mandatory voting, a majoritarian system and reduction of party subsidies.

Quarter of Bulgarian Voters 'Want New Poll after Early Election'

One fourth of Bulgarian voters would like to take part in a new early poll after the upcoming snap election, a survey has shown.

Asked about what should happen after the election, a narrow majority (29%) demand a center-right coalition, while 26% would like to see a center-left coalition, according to a poll by AFIS agency.

Italy's Constitutional Court Opens Way for Snap Elections

The Constitutional Court in Italy has decided that parts of the electoral law in the country are not valid which could lead to snap elections in 2017, reported Reuters.

The populist movement Five Stars, which leads in terms of popularity at the moment, immediately called for new parliamentary elections.
