The meeting of the Social Democratic Party's (PSD) Extraordinary Congress for designating the candidate in the presidential elections will take place on Saturday at the Palace of Parliament.

The National Executive Committee of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) will be convening at the Palace of Parliament today, one day ahead of a an extraordinary convention of the party's Congress that will validate PSD's candidate in this autumn's presidential election.

National leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Viorica Dancila was nominated on Tuesday by the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) as presidential candidate, Social-Democratic sources told AGERPRES. Dancila had earlier won the majority vote of PSD's National Standing Bureau for her nomination as presidential candidate.

The European Parliament hasn't elected a chairman in the first vote, BTA reports. Most votes have been gathered by the Italian David Sassoli. 325 MEPs voted for him.

Four politicians are contenders for parliament presidency in the upcoming elections on Wednesday, the legislature said.

The European Parliament is in the process of electing its President. For the position, the European Council the name of PES leader Sergey Stanishev was also considered. Late last night, however, his group raised the candidacy of the Italian David-Maria Sassoli.

The National Executive Committee of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) will meet on Friday to validate the bids for the party's leadership positions - chairman, executive chairman, and secretary general, but also to set the agenda for the extraordinary Congress due on Saturday, party sources said.

"We have to establish several things [at the party's congress convention]. First, we have to change the statutes with regard to the election of the party's national chair. Second - we have to come up with a political manifesto.
