Slovenia’s EuroBasket hopes dashed
Slovenia lost the first two games at the European Women Basketball Championship, ruining their prospects to make it to the quarter-finals for the first time, the goal at what is their fourth EuroBasket to date.
The team lost against Germany 62:66 at Stožice Arena in Ljubljana on 16 June and 71:76 against Great Britain on 15 June, when the event opened.

Slovenia eyeing top eight in home court EuroBasket Women
Slovenia and Israel will co-host the 2023 European Women Basketball Championship from 15 to 25 June, with the knock-out stage held in Stožice Arena in Ljubljana. The Slovenian team's goal at their fourth EuroBasket is to make it to the quarter-finals for the first time.
Slovenia second in medals per capita at Beijing Games
Beijing – Slovenian athletes won seven medals at the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, which puts the country second only to Norway in medals per capita. Overall, Slovenia ranks 15th among all countries on the Olympic medal table.
Team Slovenia won two golds, three silvers and two bronze medals, four of which in ski jumping, two in snowboarding and one in alpine skiing.
Tokyo Games most successful Summer Olympics for Slovenia yet
Tokyo – Slovenian athletes participating in the 32nd Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo have won three gold medals, the largest number at any Olympics, summer or winter, since independence. With three golds, one silver and one bronze, the medal tally is the best for Slovenia at Summer Games yet.

Janja Garnbret to carry Slovenian flag at Olympics closure
Tokyo – Olympic medallist Janja Garnbret, who won gold in the women’s combined sport climbing on Friday, will carry the Slovenian flag at the closing event of the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games on Sunday, the Slovenian Olympic Committee has announced.

Slovenian women shooters win silver at European championships
Osijek – Slovenian shooters Urška Kuharič, Živa Dvoršak and Klavdija Jerovšek won silver in the women’s 10m air rifle team event at the 2021 European Shooting Championships in Osijek, Croatia on Tuesday. The Slovenian team had to concede a 2:16 defeat against Russia in the final.
Magnifico sells record number of tickets for online Christmas concert
Ljubljana – Pop singer Magnifico will not let down his fans this Christmas despite the Covid-19 epidemic and will stage his annual 25th December concert, which is usually held at Stožice Arena, online. Ticket sale is record-breaking, his team said on Thursday. Listeners from more than ten countries will tune in.

This is the most famous chants sung by Slovenian sports fans, dating back to the golden era of Slovenian football and the 2000 UEFA European Football Championship, and which peaked in 2017 when the Slovenian basketball team - with Slovenian NBA players, Goran Dragić and Luka Dončić - earned the title of European Champions.

Judoka Trstenjak defends European champion title
This is the fifth medal at European judo championships for Trstenjak, who is also the reigning Olympic and world champion in the category.
In the gold medal match, the 26-year-old from Celje defeated Margaux Pinot of France after four and a half minutes of extended time.
