Trump Bans Admission of Syrian Refugees in USA

The USA will stop admitting refugees from Syria after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Protection of the nation from foreign terrorist entry into the United States.

Besides banning the admission of Syrian refugees, the document also prohibits the entry in the USA of citizens of another seven mostly-Muslim countries.

EU Discusses Plans To Fund Refugee Centres Outside Europe

EU Interior Ministers are discussing plans for the financing of refugee centres in Africa at a meeting in Malta.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other organisations will be able to admit the migrants, while the EU will determine whether they have the right to asylum in Europe, explained German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière before the meeting on Thursday.

UNHCR helping migrants living outside state facilities

An estimated 11,000 out of more than 65,000 migrants and refugees currently in Greece are living outside state-run facilities, according to the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

About 15,000 people living in the overcrowded island camps do not have enough heating or supplies to keep warm during the winter months, the UNHCR said.

The United Nations refugee agency is urging Greek authorities to quickly move asylum-seekers to the mainland from overcrowded facilities on Greek islands, saying conditions remain bad and expressing concern over a predicted cold weather snap.

UNHCR spokesman Adrian Edwards said in Geneva Friday that conditions at many sites "remain very poor" despite improvement efforts.
