The municipal council in the Marmara province of Yalova has voted to reject a suggestion to present renowned pianist Fazıl Say’s name to a street in the city, citing the fact that he is still alive.

Several animals living in shelters run by municipalities across Turkey have died during the 10-day-long public holiday, private broadcaster NTV reported on Sept. 4. 

The Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) holiday had been extended to 10 days in Turkey, longer than the usual duration after it coincided with the Aug. 30 Victory Day. 

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has said it is boosting the Turkish shipping industry with a $19.5 million loan to a local ship maintenance yard, Tersan Tersanecilik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş in a statement. 

A flood in the Çınarcık district of the northwestern province of Yalova damaged a number of houses and greenhouses on July 4, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

The flood in the town of Koru came after a heavy rainfall in the early hours of the morning, affecting a stream that had been under the process of remediation.

A German woman who had been missing for over a month has been found dead in the basement of an apartment building in the Gölcük district of the northeastern province of Kocaeli.
