Over the past two years an area south of Greece's Peloponnese had become a major location to circumvent sanctions against Russian oil exports. It looks like Greece has now found a way to disrupt these operations - taking place in international waters - after the Greek navy blocked off the area for naval exercises.

For the umpteenth time in the history of Greek-Turkish relations an effort is being made to avoid tensions, reach a minimum understanding, cooperate on issues of mutual interest and hold talks on more serious issues.

Turkey's foreign minister has said there are islands in the Aegean "whose sovereignty has not been determined" and where there are "violations," in an apparent return to the questioning of Greek sovereignty over its islands in the region.
