DS premises in Uzice set on fire

UZICE - The entrance to the premises of the Democratic Party (DS) in Uzice was set on fire some time after midnight and the prompt reaction by the fire-fighting squad prevented the fire from spreading to the premises and the building in which the party's seat is housed.

In a statement for Tanjug, President of the DS City Board Jovan Markovic said that the first findings of the police indicate that an unidentified individual planted the fire.

As a potential reason for the vandalism, Markovic listed the electoral campaign the ruling coalition is conducting against DS.

The insistence of the ruling regime that there are thieves and tycoons in DS lines created the negative atmosphere in which the electoral campaign is being conducted, Markovic told Tanjug and added that he wants to believe this was an act performed by an individual and a sign of revolt.

Markovic called on all parties to condemn violence.

What happened last night in Uzice should serve as a warning to all of us that we need to do everything we can to direct the campaign in the right direction while respecting each other, Markovic said.
