Local by-elections to take place in 19 counties concurrently with European elections on May 25

Local by-elections to fill the vacated seats in the local administration - County Council president, mayor or local councilor - will be organized this Sunday in 19 counties concurrently with elections for the European Parliament.

Thus, in the Arges County, by-elections will be held for the position of County Council president.

Elections for mayors will take place in 17 localities in 15 counties. At the same time, by-elections will be held for the local councils in communities of the counties of Buzau, Bihor, Dambovita, Dolj, Timis, Tulcea and Vrancea.

*** ARGES

There are seven candidates on the ballot papers for the vacant position of president of the Arges County Council.

The following candidacies have been filed with the Arges County Electoral Constituency Bureau: the acting president of the Arges County Council Florin Tecau (from the PSD-UNPR-PC alliance); Senator Ion Popa (PNL); deputy Catalin Teodorescu (PDL); deputy Mihai Deaconu (PP-DD); Lucian Cioaca (PMP); Gheorghe Dinescu (PNTCD); and Gheorghe Davidescu (Civic Force).

Over 540,000 voters entered on the permanent electoral rolls are expected to the polling stations; 596,189 ballots have been printed for the local elections in Arges County.

The position of Arges County Council president became vacant after the Prefect signed on February 24 an order for the early termination of the time in office of social-democrat Constantin Nicolescu, for conflict of interests.
