Constantin (PC): We want Ponta to officially announce his candidacy and begin the campaign

The Conservatives will support Victor Ponta in case he officially announces his candidacy in the presidential elections, Conservative Party (PC) Chairman Daniel Constantin said in Orastie on Tuesday.

'I had today [on Tuesday] a discussion with Prime Minister Victor Ponta and Gabriel Oprea related to the announcement on the candidacy in the presidential elections. I am very glad that we are getting closer to the announcement moment, I understand that there is no official announcement yet, I hope the official announcement comes as soon as possible. Our option, mine and the Party's, we want very much Mr Ponta to announce his candidacy as soon as possible and us all to begin the campaign. I was glad that all the colleagues of PSD [the Social Democratic Party] and UNPR [the National Union for Romania's Progress] came here and we saw their great interest in Mr Ponta being our candidate to presidency and their extraordinary mobilisation, seeming greater than ever. We said very clearly that we support a common PSD-UNPR-PC candidate, as long as this is Victor Ponta, otherwise we shall look for a PC solution or an independent,' Constantin said in Orastie, where he met Ponta and Oprea.
