PSD's Dragnea: Iohannis's designation as ACL candidate for President doesn't change our campaign strategy

Executive chairman of the ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD), Deputy Premier Liviu Dragnea, says that the designation of leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Klaus Iohannis as the candidate of the Christian Liberal Alliance (ACL) for the presidential election will not change anything in the Social Democrats' campaign strategy.

"I have no idea if [Iohannis] is better or worse than Catalin Predoiu. As far as we are concerned, of course we are interested to see who our rival is, we are no children, but it's not an essential goal of ours to fight someone in particular. Battling Traian Basescu, or Traian Basescu's minion, who is Klaus Iohannis, or whoever else will want to run is our goal (...)," Dragnea said, suggesting that things are just the same "whether our opponent is Iohannis or Predoiu ... because who knows, maybe they pull back Iohannis, things like this have happened before in their camp."

"Yes, it's an important piece of information, but this does not change our campaign strategy whatsoever, what we intend to do in the campaign," Dragnea explained on Monday after meeting with the leaders of the PSD county organizations.

According to the Social-Democratic leader, during the election campaign PSD will focus on keeping communication with the Romanians at its best, seeking to give PSD presidential hopeful Victor Ponta the opportunity to discuss directly with as many as possible people at the grassroots.
