Off-duty officer killed in Diyarbakır laid to rest
Nejdet AydoÄdu, the Turkish officer who was shopping with his wife in downtown Diyarbakır when he was shot in the head by unidentified assailants, was buried during his funeral at his hometown Ãnye on Oct. 31.
The funeral prayer was performed after AydoÄduâs workâs achievements were read out loud to the attendees, during which AydoÄduâs mother and wife were present and visibly upset. Customs and Trade Minister Nurettin Canikli and former Culture and Tourism Minister ErtuÄrul Günay were among the high-level state officials to attend the fallen soldierâs funeral.
While AydoÄduâs assailants have not yet been caught, two of the three suspects regarding the killing of three off-duty soldiers in the eastern province of Hakkari have been arrested. The suspects were captured by police on Oct. 27 as a part of the operation launched after the death of the three soldiers, who were shot in broad daylight in Hakkari, and were sent to a court in the Yüksekova district after being questioned.
