DNA conducts searches at Ploiesti City Hall headquarters, in FC Petrolul financing case

National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) prosecutors on Tuesday morning are conducting searches at the headquarters of the Ploiesti City Hall, in a case having to do with funds allotted from the local budget to the FC Petrolul football club, related to which investigations were launched in rem for abuse of office one year ago.

Judiciary sources told AGERPRES that searches are targeting Mayor Iulian Badescu's office and his home in Ploiesti.

The charges brought in this case are abuse of office and bribe taking.

Prosecutors from the Ploiesti branch of the DNA a year ago initiated the criminal proceedings in rem in a case related to the funding of the Petrolul Ploiesti football club from the local budget. Thus, based on a decision of the Local Council, the municipality was supposed to award three million euros to the football team for its achievements in sports.

However, up to the moment when the investigation started, the Ploiesti City Hall had only paid 1.7 million euros to the football team via the "Lupii Galbeni" [Yellow Wolves] Association. AGERPRES
