Defence Ministry: Manifestations dedicated to Year of War Veterans in all large garrisons in country

The Ministry of National Defence (MApN) is organizing this year in all the large garrisons in the country special manifestations dedicated to the Year of War Veterans, 70 years after the end of the Second World War, MApN informs.

According to a release remitted on Tuesday by the MApN, the month of April will see military and religious ceremonies to lay wreaths and garlands at the monuments dedicated to the heroes of the Second World War, solemn meetings of the associations of war veterans, events in military units during the "The Army ? A different kind of school" programme, shows and exhibitions featuring archive imagery, as well as activities to restore and clean the monuments and graves of heroes.

Through Government Decision no. 164/2015, 2015 was declared the Year of War Veterans while the Day of War Veterans is celebrated every year on April 29, being instituted through Government Decision no. 1222/2007.

During the Second World War, Romania has recorded 900,000 casualties ? dead, wounded, missing in action, prisoners, and left disabled, of which around 92,000 dead. Currently, around 20,000 war veterans survive, as well as 760 women widowed in the war and approximately 102,000 widows of war veterans, MApN mentions. AGERPRES
