Exarchia turned into a battle field – Clashes between anti-authoritarian groups and police

Violent episodes broke out at Exarchia after the main rally for the anniversary of the murder of Alexis Grigoropoulos where about 3,000 members of anti-authoritarian groups participated.

When the rally finished, about 150 anti-authoritarians headed to Exarchia throwing Molotov cocktails, setting fire to bins and causing extensive damages to parked cars and the surrounding area, while the riot police gathered in the region responded by throwing stun grenades.

The episodes occurred at Tositsa, Tsamadou, Efessou, Spyridon Trikoupis and Stournari streets at the center of Athens, whereas anti-authoritarians tried to set fire to a supermarket located at Spyridon Trikoupis street. Up to now, police have arrested 15 persons

They also threw a Molotov coctail at a kiosk, but the owner managed to put out the fire, whereas a balcony on the 1st floor of a building was set on fire by a Molotov coctail.
