Ljubljana bike-sharing system expanding

Ljubljana – The bicycle-sharing scheme BicikeLJ in Ljubljana has been expanded with nine new pick-up locations. An additional 90 bikes have been added to the system, which now features 72 docking stations and 720 bikes and will be further expanded next year.

The new locations are at the Kolezija public swimming pool, the Viško Polje bus station, at the Koseški Bajer playground, the Kompas bus station in the Dravlje district, in Črnuče at the intersection of Dunajska Cesta and Cesta Ceneta Štuparja, at the Studenec bus station, near the Polje cemetery, at the junction of Zaloška Cesta and Agrokombinatska Cesta in the Zalog borough, and at a Lidl store in the Rudnik borough.

The last station was co-financed by the retailer.

All the locations have been set up at the initiative of Ljubljana residents. More of their wishes will come true in 2021 when the city plans nine new docking stations in cooperation with the companies Lek, Hofer, Supernova, Ikea and Butan Plin.

Ljubljana is famous for being one of the most bicycle-friendly cities. In late 2019, the city boasted around 300 kilometres of designated cycling paths, a European Mobility Week report by the Ljubljana municipality shows.
