President Pahor insists STA funding must be restored

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor insists that financing of the public service performed by the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) must be restored, his office told the STA after the president yesterday tweeted that the agency plays an irreplaceable role.

Pahor served as prime minister when the act governing the STA was adopted, securing the agency’s editorial and financial independence.

When public service funding was suspended for the first time last year, he received STA director Bojan Veselinović and then talked on the phone with Uroš Urbanija, the head of the Government Communications Office (UKOM).

At the time he called on both sides to sort out issues that had led to the suspension of financing.

In a recent interview for Večer, Pahor said he was “angered that the financing of the STA cannot be resolved”.
