ATHEX: Main index ends up with narrow gains

Despite the drop of the blue chip index, the banks index, mid-caps, turnover and the majority of stocks on the Greek stock market on Thursday, the benchmark at Athinon Avenue managed to remain in positive territory by the closing, ending the short streak of the previous two days. That small rise is attributed mainly to energy stocks.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,481.65 points, adding 0.11% to Wednesday's 1,480.09 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index contracted just 0.01%, ending at 3,589.74 points.

The banks index conceded 0.74%, as Alpha gave up 1.18%, Piraeus shrank 0.90%, National declined 0.60% and Eurobank parted with 0.52%.

Among the other blue chips, Viohalco soared 4.11%, Cenergy Holdings jumped 4.05%, GEK Terna improved 2.70% and Motor Oil fetched 2.66%, while Quest Holdings sank 4.03% and ElvalHalcor slumped 3.79%.
