Poli Genova to Represent Bulgaria at Eurovision 2016

Poli Genova will represent Bulgaria at this year's edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in Stockholm between May 10 and 14.

Her selection was announced last week by the public broadcaster, the Bulgarian National Television (BNT), which is responsible for determining the Bulgarian participant.

Turkcell speeds up 4.5G activities

Turkcell has announced an acceleration of its efforts to establish 4.5G base stations amid a looming April 1 deadline to adopt the new technology in a press release on Jan. 6.

The company said it will launch 4.5G with speeds of up to 375 Mbps aggregating three carriers. By 2017, Turkcell will reach a speed of 1000 Mbps, according to the press release. 

Nokia gains control of Alcatel-Lucent

Finnish telecoms giant Nokia has gained control of nearly 80 percent of its French-American rival Alcatel-Lucent, France's stock market regulator said Jan. 4.

Nokia now holds around 76 percent of shares and voting rights in Alcatel under its public exchange offer, the French financial market authority, AMF, said in an interim report.

On Monday night, Thomas Liakounakos, aged 67, and a retired former high-ranking military officer were taken into custody. The high-profile businessman was apprehended from his home in upmarket Psychiko after an arrest warrant was issued in relation to charges stemming from a case involving a contract with Swedish multi-national Ericsson.

High-profile local exec arrested in relation to alleged defense contract kickbacks

A well-known Greek businessman and high-profile representative of foreign defense manufacturers was arrested late Monday evening in Athens. Thomas Liakounakos was apprehended by police after an arrest warrant was issued in relation to charges stemming from a case involving a contract with the multinational Ericsson.

Nokia says in talks to buy all of Alcatel-Lucent

Finland's Nokia announced on April 14 that it was in advanced talks to purchase all of its Franco-American rival Alcatel-Lucent.

"Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent confirm that they are in advanced discussions with respect to a potential full merger, which would take the form of a public exchange offer by Nokia for Alcatel-Lucent," said a statement.

Vucic visits Sweden
