Side Effects of High Russian Gas Prices and What Gazprom Can Do about It - IEA

The International Energy Agency (IEA) said on Tuesday (21 September) Russia could do more to help alleviate gas supply issues in Europe which have driven prices up to record highs over the past month.

The comments come after a group of European Parliament lawmakers last week asked the European Commission to investigate Gazprom's role in soaring European gas prices.

In the application submitted to the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (KEVR) on May 11, Bulgargaz requested a 13 percent increase in the price of natural gas, compared to prices in May, or BGN 42.54. (excluding access fees, transmission, excise duty and VAT costs). This became clear during today's discussion on the price of blue fuel in KEVR.

"It's not just about Serbia"

This was assessed by Paul McCarthy, director for Europe of the International Republican Institute (IRI), and Ben Hodges, former commander-in-chief of the US Ground Forces in Europe, expresses hope that Biden administration will be ready to "lend a hand" to President Aleksandar Vui.
McCarthy believes that Russia wants to show that it is a player that can be counted on.
