The president of Bosnia's Serb-dominated Republika Srpska entity, Zeljka Cvijanovic, presented controversial Austrian author Peter Handke with the Order of Republika Srpska on Friday in Banja Luka for "exceptional work and contribution in the field of cultural and spiritual development".

Taking advantage of the tensions caused by a controversial document predicting the dissolution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosnian Serb political leaders said on Tuesday that they want to formally discuss the future of the country with Croat and Bosniak politicians.

In response, the Ukrainian defence ministry has called on reservist soldiers to attend training sessions and has conducted defensive military drills near Crimea. Kyiv says that 28 of its soldiers have already been killed this year.

NATO has hit back to a statement from the Russian embassy in Bosnia, which said on Friday that "in the event of practical rapprochement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and NATO, our country will have to react to this hostile step".

A European Commissioner on a visit to Bosnia on Friday called for all parts of the country to share the burden of migration equally - in an implicit dig at Bosnia's Serb-led entity, which has refused to host migrant camps.

President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vui, who presented the decorations on the occasion of the Statehood Day of Serbia, said that Sretenje is a great day for Serbia, the day when the modern Serbian state was born.
