Finance Ministry targets growth recovery

Last year closed with the general government debt at 338 billion euros and cash reserves at €31 billion. The Finance Ministry is now waiting for the final figures on the 2020 gross domestic product and the extent of the recession to establish how far above the 200% level the ratio of debt to GDP will rise.

TurkStream transfers 5.8 bcm of gas to Europe in 2020

Over 5.8 billion cubic meters (bcm) of Russian gas transferred to Europe from Turkey via TurkStream natural gas pipeline in 2020, according to industry sources on Jan. 3.

The TurkStream pipeline opened by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Jan. 8.

Turkey’s annual inflation rate at 14.60 pct in December

Turkey saw a 14.60 percent annual hike in consumer prices in December 2020, the country's statistical authority said on Jan. 4.

The annual inflation rate rose 0.57 percentage point in the month, up from 14.03 percent in November, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).

The consumer price index also saw a 1.25 percent monthly increase, it added.

50 tools to usher in tax reductions

The government intends to use as many as 50 instruments to reach its target of expanding the tax base in 2022. The funding for the government's plans is projected to come from the Next Generation EU recovery program.

For the first time in more than a month, today the youngest students up to 4th grade will return to school.

Parents will have the right to state that they prefer their children to continue distance learning. So far, about 700 children have stayed at home at the request of their parents.
