The Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) has announced that it will appoint its own candidate for the presidential elections slated for spring 2023.

The opposition alliance will prepare Türkiye for its second century when it comes to power in the next elections that will take place in June 2023, as the country will mark its centennial, main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has said.

Devlet Bahçeli, the head of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) has slammed the six-party opposition for not being able to appoint a joint presidential candidate against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has openly challenged the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to announce his candidacy and run against him in the next presidential elections although the opposition alliance has not yet decided who will be their joint presidential nominee.

İYİ (Good) Party leader Meral Akşener stressed that the presidential candidate of the Nation Alliance should have state experience and would pursue a parliamentary system.

The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said he was ready to run in the next presidential elections if other opposition parties agree on his name.

"If my name is agreed on, I am ready," he said on Sept. 5 in an interview with Fox TV when asked about his possible presidential candidacy in the next elections.

Felicity Party (SP) leader Temel Karamollaoğlu has stressed that the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader's nomination for the next year's presidential election as the joint candidate of the opposition alliance may be a strong possibility.

The leaders of the six opposition parties have agreed to run in the next presidential elections with a joint candidate but without spelling out who he or she might be, in their sixth in-person meeting over the weekend.

The opposition's candidate for the presidency will win the polls against incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the first round, the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader has vowed, also predicting that the opposition alliance will garner the parliamentary majority.

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, İYİ (Good) Party chair Meral Akşener, Democrat Party chair Gültekin Uysal, Felicity Party head Temel Karamollaoğlu, Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA) leader Ali Babacan and Future Party chair Ahmet Davutoğlu met for the fifth time on July 3 at the İYİ Party headquarters.
