U.S. President Donald Trump said on Jan. 5 that his country would hit Iran with "brand new beautiful equipment" if Iran targeted U.S. bases or American nationals in the wake of the killing of a senior Iranian general by an American airstrike.
Foreign-language courses coming to Greek unis
Greece's universities will be able to introduce foreign-language programs to their curriculums without ministerial approval but only with the green light from the National Accreditation Council, according to legislation being prepared by the Ministry of Education that has been seen by Kathimerini.

Istanbul Jews fight to save their ancestral tongue
If there's one thing Dora Beraha regrets in her twilight years, it is not passing on the 500-year-old language of Istanbul's Jews, Ladino, now on the point of extinction.
"After us, will there still be people who speak this language?" says 90-year-old Beraha.
"Surely, very few. It is possible that it will disappear."

No New Year's Fireworks in Slovenia
To prevent air pollution and increase safety, many Slovenian cities are canceling the traditional New Year's fireworks.
Local authorities have announced that there will be audio and video performances at midnight instead of fireworks. Other cities have announced they will replace fireworks with biodegradable candy.
