Foreign relations of Northern Cyprus

The President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Sept. 22 said that his Greek Cypriot counterpart's speech in London was far from an understanding of partnership in political equality.   

The European Commission on Sept. 16 adopted an annual action program for a total amount of €35.4 million ($38.5 million) identifying new projects to facilitate the reunification of Cyprus.

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) needs Ankara's guarantorship "more than ever", Turkish foreign minister said on Sept. 15. 

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is in cooperation with Turkey in furthering the national interests of the TRNC in the eastern Mediterranean, the country's prime minister said on Aug. 25.         

Turkish Cypriot officials have had meetings with Italian Eni, which struck a license agreement with the Greek Cypriot side to extract natural resources in the Eastern Mediterranean and have made presentations to representatives of U.S. energy companies licensed by the Greek Cypriots, said Kudret Özersay, deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs for the Turkish side.

Officials from Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) took an inspection tour to closed Varosha, an abandoned city in the northern part of the divided island of Cyprus, on Aug. 23.

Blatantly defying EU warnings and sanctions decided on 16 July over its decision to pursue gas and oil drilling in Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone , Ankara has decided to send a fourth ship to the region.

Cyprus: No to Akinci's proposal for co-management of hydrocarbons deposits

Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci has proposed to the internationally recognized government of Cyprus that the two sides cooperate in the search for gas off the island of Cyprus, Turkey's Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

Turkey on July 13 welcomed and fully supported Turkish Cypriot president's joint use of hydrocarbon resources with the Greek side.

Turkey's foreign ministry said on July 10 it rejected statements by Greek and European Union officials that Turkish drilling for gas and oil off Cyprus was illegitimate and said the EU could not be an impartial mediator on the Cyprus problem.
