Food from canceled presidential reception donated to charity

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Monday arranged for hundreds of meals to be delivered to four charities that feed people in need. 

Sakellaropoulou took the initiative after a big reception that had been planned at the Presidential Mansion to mark the 49th anniversary of the restoration of democracy in Greece was canceled due to the wildfires. 

Greece appoints caretaker prime minister ahead of new elections

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou appointed Ioannis Sarmas, a senior judicial official who is president of the Court of Audit, as caretaker prime minister on Wednesday to form a government that will lead the country to a repeat election on June 25, after last weekend's inconclusive vote.

Seeking continuity in foreign policy

Significant efforts are under way to ensure that the period of flux between the two expected rounds of voting in Greece's general elections brings no unpleasant surprises with regard to the easing of tension in Greek-Turkish relations, but also to prepare for any likely upsets from the elections in Turkey.
