Ljubljana – The Slovenian-based company Sigma Energija (Sigma Energy) has developed a device that can convert the energy produced by sea waves into electricity in a sustainable way without carbon emissions.

Ljubljana – The government’s decision to rescind the Boxer defence deal was not a good one, says Večer on Saturday, noting that Slovenia does not have a long-term strategic reflection on the development of the armed forces.
Kings of the Street wins award for best street newspaper front page
Milan/Ljubljana – The Slovenian street magazine Kings of the Street has received an award for the best street newspaper front page by the International Network of Street Papers. The people’s choice award, presented in Milan, Italy, on Friday, recognised a cover made by visual artist Samira Kentrić, the organisation said.
Šenk Homestead recognised at Constructive Alps competition
Ljubljana – Šenk Homestead in the Jezersko area in north-western Slovenia has received a special mention at the sixth international architecture competition Constructive Alps, held by Switzerland and Lichtenstein.
Out of 240 entries from seven countries, the jury recognised eleven projects as outstanding, said the Slovenian Environment and Spatial Planning Ministry.
Slovenia pulling out of Boxer defence deal
Brdo pri Kranju – Slovenia will rescind the EUR 281 million agreement on the purchase of 45 Boxer armoured personnel carriers from the OCCAR programme after an audit of the deal was completed, Defence Minister Marjan Šarec announced after Thursday’s cabinet session. The contractual fine could reach as high as EUR 70 million.

Slovenia, Germany to boost cooperation in defence
Ljubljana – Slovenia and Germany plan to sign a declaration on enhanced bilateral cooperation in defence, the Government Communication Office said as the cabinet took note of this decision at Thursday’s session.

Slovenia celebrates Primorska reunification day
Koper/Portorož – Slovenia observes today the Return of Primorska to the Motherland, a public holiday in memory of the day in 1947 when this western region was reunited with Slovenia after being under Italian rule since the end of WWI.

Gender diversity at state-owned and listed companies improving
Ljubljana – Gender diversity in leadership positions in state-owned and publicly traded companies has improved in 2022 over last year, the Slovenian Directors’ Association said on Wednesday. Last year, 23% of state-owned and listed companies met the 40/33/2026 objectives and by this year the share has increased to 34%.
Brglez willing to run for president, SD says
Ljubljana – MEP Milan Brglez (S&D/SD) has expressed the willingness to run for president, the junior coalition Social Democrats (SD) told the STA on Wednesday, expressing the wish that he be supported by the entire coalition. The SD presidency is expected to formally nominate him tomorrow afternoon.
