Parliament needs to adjust scores of laws to new charter in next 6 months

The system change approved on April 16 by a narrow majority of the electorate voting in favor of changing the constitution is set to be in effect after 2019, as the parliament readies to enter an intense period in the next six months in order to harmonize the existing legislation with the new constitution. 

Amendment on reimbursement of broadcasting fees submitted in Parliament

Greece's left-led administration on Wednesday submitted an amendment in Parliament laying out the details for the reimbursement of some 85 million euros paid as first instalment by private TV stations for the acquisition of national broadcasting licenses following last year's state-supervised auction.

Worrying ambition

The proposal that the age limit for Greek judges be extended beyond the current maximum of 67 years is clearly at odds with the Constitution. The government was right to reject it.

Turkish Parliament approves Article 12 of constitutional package 

Turkey's parliament on Jan. 20 approved Article 12 of an 18-item constitutional amendment package in the second round of voting in a move to shift the country's government system to an executive presidential system.  
The article, which outlines the president's authority to declare a state of emergency, was approved with 342 votes in favor, 12 over the necessary threshold.

Toward a regime change in Turkey

Debates on the constitutional amendments have started in parliament. Surveys have shown that 36 percent of citizens who will vote in a possible referendum have "no information" about the constitutional change. The rate of those who say they have "very little" knowledge is 28 percent and those who say they have "a little" knowledge total 14 percent.
