Annual Household Income in Bulgaria Increased by 11.3% in 2013

The average annual income per household member in 2013 was BGN 4,814 or 11.3% more compared to 2012, according to data of the National Statistical Institute.

Wages continue to be the main source of household income representing 53.1% of the total income in 2013 compared to 52.7% in 2012, NSI's statistics on Households Income, Expenditure and Consumption in 2013 showed.

Nominal household income from wages increases. In 2013 the households have had at their disposal BGN 2,557 on average per person, while in 2012 the income was BGN 2,281 which is an increase by 12.1%.

The second important source of household income are pensions. Share from pensions represents 25.5% of the total annual household income per household member in 2013, compared to 26.7% in 2012. Social transfers (pensions, family allowances for children, scholarships and unemployment benefits) represent 28.5% of the total annual household income per household member in 2013, compared to 30.1% in 2012.

The relative share of income from household plot within the total household income remains on the level of 2012 and is 1.6% in 2013. Bulgarian households have spent BGN 4466 per person in 2013, which is 10.1% more than in 2012. Expenditure on food is BGN 1480 on average per household member. Relative share of expenditure on food within the total expenditure decreases from 33.4% in 2012 to 33.2% in 2013.

Expenditure on dwellings, water, electricity and fuels increases by 1.8% compared to 2012. Health expenses also increased by 9.9%, on transport (by 19.2%) and on communication (by 7.3%).
