23rd International Festival of Ethnological Film to kick off

BELGRADE - The main program of the 23rd International Festival of Ethnological Film at the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade will be officially opened on Friday evening.

The past two days saw screenings of films in the student films and mobile phone short films programes, selected in a competition dubbed ID3min.

A number of interesting films about unknown or forgotten folk customs, civilizations and ceremonies in different communities across the globe will be screened on October 21.

The Selection Committee chose 24 films for the competition and 11 for the out-of-competition program. A total of 86 films (71 from abroad and 15 from Serbia) on ethnological and anthropological topics were submitted to the festival.

The members of the Commission are director Arsenije Jovanovic, producer Vladimir Andjelkovic and ethnologist and anthropologist Dalibor Pesic.

The festival presents the following awards: Dragoslav Antonijevic Grand Prix, Awards for the Best National and International Film, Award for the Best Student Film and an Award for the Best Presentation of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The jury is comprised of directors Adela Peeva and Emilio Della Chiesa and museum counselor at the Ethnographic Museum Sasa Sreckovic.

The program of the festival includes two roundtables: ‘The Role and Importance of Film as a Medium in the Preservation of Cultural Heritage and ‘The Development of Independent Student Production of Anthropological Film.

Admission to all screenings is free.
