Ponta: I will guarantee the independence and professionalism of those who carry out justice

Candidate of the electoral alliance made up of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the National Union for Romania's Progress (UNPR) and the Conservative Party (PC) in the presidential election Victor Ponta stated, on Tuesday evening, that as President of Romania he will support, as he has done from the post of Prime Minister, the independence and professionalism of the judiciary.

"All that I have done until now as Prime Minister I will do as President — namely guaranteeing the independence and professionalism of those who must carry out justice. What we must do is get rid of the double discourse, of the demagogy. Mr. Iohannis said he believes it is inadmissible that someone cannot be investigated upon the Parliament's vote. I want to remind him, maybe he does not know his colleagues, that Mr. Varujan Vosganian is in this situation. Mr. Victor Paul Dobre is in this situation. (...) The DNA [National Anti-corruption Directorate] has proposed the arrest of another close to you, Mr. Mircea Rosca, and surely you'll have to vote for his arrest in the first session [of Parliament]", said Ponta, at private broadcaster Realitatea TV.
