Prosecutor recommends 64 suspects should be tried over OTE's Siemens contract

More than 60 people should be charged in connection to the Siemens cash-for-contracts scandal, a prosecutor has recommended to a council of judges who will make the final decision.

Deputy prosecutor for financial crimes Galinos Bris delivered his 2,368-page report on Monday after an investigation into a 1997 multimillion agreement, known as the 8002 contract, for Siemens to digitize OTE telecom’s network. It is alleged that more than 60 million euros in bribes were paid to secure the deal.

Bris has recommended that a total of 64 people should be charged for bribery, money laundering and being accessories to these offenses.
