Liberals top Romanian voters' options with 44.2 pct; PSD-UNPR-PC at 37.4 pct (poll)

The new National Liberal Party (PNL, in opposition) would get the vote of 44.2 percent of Romanians should parliamentary elections be held next Sunday (up from 41.7 percent in Dec. 2014), while the governing Alliance of Social Democrats, the National Union for the Progress of Romania and the Conservatives (PSD-UNPR-PC) would garner 37.4 percent (down from 38.8 percent in Dec.), shows an INSCOP poll conducted over Feb. 5-10 that was released on Monday.

According to the poll, the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) would get 5 percent (as compared to 5.1 percent in Dec.), the People's Movement Party (PMP) is seen getting 4 percent (as against 5.6 percent in Dec.), the Liberal Reforming Party 3.3 percent (keeping steady from Dec.), Dan Diaconescu People's Party 1.4 percent (2.3 percent in Dec.), the Greater Romania Party 1.1 percent (1.2 percent in Dec.) and the Christian Democratic National Peasant's Party (PNTCD) 0.9 percent (0.6 percent in Dec.).

When asked if they were willing to vote for a newly-set up party, 38.4 percent of the respondents said no, 25.9 percent said they would be willing to, 24 percent said they were decided to and 11.7 percent did not know or would not answer the question.

As for the funding of the political parties, 69.8 percent of the polled say they must be funded both from the state budget and private sources, 12.4 percent think the parties should be funded by the budget alone and 17.9 percent expressed no opinion.

On the issue of the vote by correspondence for the Romanians living abroad, 70.9 percent agree with it, 16.2 percent do not approve of it and 12.8 percent do not know or would not answer.
