Udovicki: Draft law on salaries is ready

BELGRADE - The first draft law on public sector salaries is ready, and it proposes 60 pay categories, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Kori Udovicki said on Thursday.

"Job systematization is an extensive and important task needed to bring order to the public administration. We also need it for the law on salaries and for the purpose of rationalization," said Udovicki, adding that the aim of the law is to provide equal pay for the same jobs, which imply the same volume and conditions of work, no matter where they are performed.

She stressed that in sectors such as education it is important to measure the performance more frequently than it is the case now.

Until the pay-per-performance scheme is introduced, it is necessary to at least take into account the conditions and the intensity of work, the minister said.

"The deadlines for putting forward the bill on salaries and the optimization of public administration - with the rationalization as its first phase - are very tight," said Udovicki, adding that she believes that the proposals will be presented to the public in May.
