Hostage situation ends aboard passenger ferry, Kriti 2

A hostage situation aboard the passenger ferry, Kriti 2, on a route from Crete to Piraeus ended when the police stormed on board. Early reports showed that a passenger, aged 30, held a female hostage on board, threatening her with a broken glass.

The hostage-taker was monitored by the crew whereas the other passengers, roughly around 600 people, had been distanced from the scene.

Police were immediately alerted to the situation and were on standby as the ferry arrived at the port of Piraeus, along with a special negotiator specialized in hostage situations, though in this case the man made no demands.

The woman has now been released, though lightly injured with a slit to her neck. She was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.
