Veteran Turkish journalist Çetin Altan dies

Veteran Turkish journalist and author Çetin Altan died on Oct. 22. He was 88.

Altan had been hospitalized in June and later discharged.

Born on June 22, 1927 in Istanbul, Altan began his journalism career in 1946 in the Ulus newspaper. 

He later became a deputy for Turkey?s Labor Party between 1965 and 1969. He also penned a number of books throughout his career and wrote 10 dramas, most of which were staged. 

In his later years he was a columnist for daily Milliyet.

Çetin Altan was the father of the popular journalist and author Ahmet Altan and academic Mehmet Altan.
