President Iohannis asks Parliament to reexamine amendments to ANI law

President Klaus Iohannis has called on Parliament to reexamine a law supplementing Law 176/2010 on integrity in the discharge of public duties, amending and supplementing Law 144/2007 on the establishment, organisation and operation of the National Integrity Agency (ANI).

"The legislative action under review is in reality a leniency measure for lawmakers that removes the effects of a ban generated by the violation of conflict of interest rules for the future. The motivation of this so-called reform of integrity cannot be limited to a simple formal exercise to justify the social need through the appearance of unclear rules of conflict of interest, all the more so since Law 219/2013 has only strengthened the social need to penalise the inappropriate conduct of a senator or MP, a social need materialiased in the previous legislation, as far back as 2003 and constantly asserted in constitutional jurisprudence," reads the request for re-examination.
