Primorsko-Notranjska region to get business incubator

Postojna – All six municipalities in Primorsko-Notranja, a region in the south-west of the country, have signed a contract to set up a regional business incubator Perspektiva in a bid to provide systemic leverage to encourage entrepreneurship through start-ups.

Seated in Postojna, the new hub is an initiative of the Perspektiva Business Incubator, a unit within the Postojna municipality’s Zavod Znanje umbrella organisation.

As the second least developed of Slovenia’s 12 statistical regions, Primorsko-Notranjska needs a breakthrough in the form of industrial development, Ajda Cuderman, a state secretary in the prime minister’s office, told the STA after attending the signing ceremony in Postojna on Wednesday.

She said the hub had received a million euro in co-funding, while another tech hub is being set up in the Neverke industrial zone in the municipality of Pivka, whose investment value is EUR 2.1 million.

Jana Nadoh Bergoč, Perspektiva Business Incubator head, said the regional hub would work hand in hand with other organisations providing support for entrepreneurship.

Postojna Mayor Igor Marentič said he was extremely proud of the new regional business hub in the municipality.

“The municipality encourages the founding of new companies and business initiative in general because this is key to economic growth and innovation.

“We’re making the town and its surroundings friendly to entrepreneurs,” he told the STA on the occasion.

This is only one in a series of major business projects Postojna is involved in as it wants to further develop its industrial zones Veliki Otok, Prestranek and Liv.

Marentič said there had recently been much more interest in both buildings and plots to build business infrastructure on.

He hopes the Veliki Otok business area of 17,000 square metres on the outskirts of the town of Postojna will soon be fully occupied.

It is suited to a range of business activities from warehouses, energy companies, educational establishments, research facilities or hospitality.

Just recently, the city council has backed Marentič’s initiative to set up a higher education centre in a bid to encourage economic development.

The new centre is expected to be launched in two to three years.

“The establishment of a higher education centre in Postojna would represent added value to the existing educational establishments in the municipality and Primorsko-Notranjska region.”
