Bosnian Serb Hague Convict Faces New War Crime Trial

Former Bosnian Serb Army unit commander Dragoljub Kunarac, who is already serving a war crimes sentence in Germany, will be tried again for committing crimes against humanity in Foca in 1992.

The Athens Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Nikos Tsouchlos, pays tribute to American-born Greek composer George Tsontakis, who will travel from New York to the Greek capital for the show.

The third Festival of Contemporary Spanish Theater will take place this weekend at the Anna and Maria Kalouta Municipal Cultural Center. "Godfather of swing" Ray Gelato and his Enforcers band take up a residency at the Half Note through January 14, with an explosive program of swing and rock n' roll classics. Shows start at 10.30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 9.30 p.m. on Sunday and Monday, and admission costs 20, 25 or 30 euros.

Requiem | Athens | January 11 & 12

Choreographer Alexis Tsiamoglou presents "Requiem: A Choreographed Portrait," at the Athens Concert Hall on Saturday and Sunday. In this original piece, dancer Niovi Benou presents a solo in which she approaches the creative process of dance much as a painter would approach the process of putting his or her feelings on the canvas. Shows start at 9 p.m. and general admission costs 15 euros.

Karabeti & Mitsias | Athens | January 12-19

Two respected local talents, actress/singer Kariofyllia Karabeti and vocalist Manolis Mitsias, join forces at the Parnassos Literary Society for a series of concerts of emblematic Greek poetry that has been set to music, including poems by Sappho, Dionysis Solomos, Giorgos Seferis, Odysseas Elytis and Yiannis Ritsos. Performances start at 9.30 p.m. and admission costs 10-30 euros.

Theachers clash with riot police during a protest in Athens

A protester destroys the wreath that German Chancellor Angela Merkel laid earlier in the day at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, during a teachers' demonstration outside of the Greek Parliament, in Athens, Friday. Teachers protested against a new law regulating for the appointment/hiring of permanent teaching staff. The rally took place a few hours after Merkel's visit to Athens. [EPA]

Kammenos backs down from threat to quit coalition
