We Need Books, an Athens-based NGO dedicated to creating small libraries and cultural spaces that provide marginalized refugees and migrants with access to literature, information, conversation and company, is launching its new venue, a multilingual library, on November 1 and 2 in the downtown Athens district of Kypseli. Doors will open at 7 p.m.

Cyprus rescues 28 Syrians, Lebanese aboard boat

Police in Cyprus say they have rescued 28 migrants, including nine children and four women, aboard a small boat located off Cape Greco on the Mediterranean island nation's southeastern tip.
A marine police vessel escorted the boat Thursday to a nearby harbor where the 14 Syrian and 14 Lebanese migrants disembarked for processing.

Greece breaks EU rules on religious education classes

Europe's top human rights court has ruled that the Greek system for exempting schoolchildren from religious education classes is in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights.
Under existing regulations, parents who want their children to be exempt from religious education classes must submit a solemn declaration saying that their children are not Orthodox Christians.
