Independent cultural scene criticises new labour legislation
BELGRADE - Organisations that are part of the independent cultural scene feel that the amendments to the laws on labour, pension and disability insurance, state asset sale and bankruptcy continue the practice of shifting the burden of the economic crisis to the shoulders of the largest, and often the most vulnerable, layers of the society.
Vujovic: Serbia wants agreement with IMF on three-year loan
BELGRADE - Serbia wants to negotiate with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) regarding an agreement on a three-year loan that would help reduce the public debt and deficit and make the budget cuts easier, which would make austerity less painful, Serbia's Minister of Economy Dusan Vujovic said in an interview for Bloomberg.
Nearly 40pct of 2014 budget will go to debt repayment
BELGRADE - Former National Bank of Serbia (NBS) governor Dejan Soskic pointed to alarming trends in Serbia and warned that the country faces serious problems.
Speaking at the 14th Economic Summit in Belgrade on Monday, Soskic stated that 39.1 percent of the budget went this year towards debt repayment.

BELGRADE -- First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić said on Monday the country was not in danger of "a system collapse."
According to him, this is true "regardless of the size of its debt" - but noted that "it definitely needed help from abroad to achieve a significant level of economic growth."
Budget deficit reaches RSD 114.6 bln in five months
BELGRADE - Serbia's budget deficit reached RSD 114.6 billion in the first five months of 2014, Ministry of Finance stated in a release.
The deficit totals RSD 116.6 billion at the state level, as it includes expenditure for project loans, which, although not a budget item, is an item of state spending.
