PSD-UNPR-PC presidential front-runner Victor Ponta said on Wednesday evening that he is ready to be the President Romania needs.

"I think I'm ready and can be the President Romania needs, and this for three reasons. In the first place, because of the vision I have presented as a Prime Minister and USL leader — specifically putting an end to the regime of Basescu and all his acolytes: Vasile Blaga, Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, Catalin Predoiu, seeing to Romania's development, providing reparation for the injustices done in that period," Victor Ponta declared at the televised debate at the B1 channel.

He added that carrying out his vision as President requires a team.

"Secondly, because you cannot accomplish anything at the helm of a country if you don't have a team. My team is that of USL that got the vote of 60 percent of the Romanians, with Calin Popescu-Tariceanu as Prime Minister, with Teodor Melescanu and all the others. And thirdly, because after having served two years and a half as Prime Minister, I came to understand something many Romanian feel too — that we need stability and unity. (...) We are about to part with a regime that practically ends on Sunday, which was built on dividing the Romanians against themselves (...) and I think that in the next five years, when Romania will celebrate the centennial of the Great Union, I can take the country towards the ideal our forerunners had 100 years ago," stressed the PSD-UNPR-PC presidential candidate.
