Ljubljana – The ruling Democratic Party (SDS) has recorded a rise in its support ratings of almost four percentage points compared to September, while President Borut Pahor’s popularity has comprehensively declined, shows the latest poll commissioned by the commercial broadcaster POP TV.

Ljubljana/Slovenj Gradec – On United Nations Day, Slovenia has called for strengthening of effective and rule-based multilateralism, with the UN playing the primary role based on inseparable connection and mutual complementation of peace, security and development, and on human rights with respect of international law and goals and principles of the UN Charter.

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor told the news portal N1 on Saturday that in his capacity as president he had neither the right nor the competence nor the duty to say that enough is enough in the current tense situation. The president does not have the power to decide on the fate of the government, he noted.

Ljubljana – Rok Svetlič, a nominee for a Constitutional Court judge, presented his bid at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, rejecting claims that he had spoken about shooting migrants at a consultation on migration and the foreigners act in the summer of 2020. He also said no party, guild or university department was behind his bid.

Ljubljana – The newspaper Delo writes that Prime Minister Janez Janša, with his tweets targeting the European Parliament’s delegation on a fact-finding mission to Slovenia, damaged Slovenia’s reputation and the credibility of its EU presidency, which it says is politically dead.

Ljubljana – The centre-left opposition condemned on Friday PM Janez Janša’s response to the visit of a fact-finding mission of the European Parliament, in particular his tweets. These were labelled as harmful and detrimental to Slovenia’s international image. Matej Tonin, the head of the junior coalition New Slovenia (NSi), urged Janša to apologise.

Ljubljana – The presidents of Slovenia and Italy, Borut Pahor and Sergio Mattarella, will visit Nova Gorica and Gorizia, the cities on each side of the Slovenian-Italian border, next Thursday to hail their title as the 2025 European Capital of Culture. On the occasion Pahor will decorate Mattarella with Slovenia’s top state honour.

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor has agreed to organise an international conference on tolerance in the spring in cooperation with the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU) and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts EASA.

Brdo pri Kranju – President Borut Pahor on Tuesday presented German Chancellor Angela Merkel with the Order of Merit for Distinguished Service, Slovenia’s highest honour, for her personal contribution to deepening the relationship between the two countries and for her credible and trust-inspiring European leadership.

Ljubljana – Unity is rare in Slovenian politics but the unity in the criticism of President Borut Pahor, who held talks with Zoran Stevanović, the initiator of recent protests against the Covid pass mandate, is not something to be happy about, as it is driven by calculations and fear, Delo says on Tuesday.
