‘Twin truck trick’ used in border traffic

As the government has recently developed new methods to fight against border trafficking, smugglers have created new loopholes to not be caught. One of the latest methods of smugglers is known as the “twin truck method,” which has surprised customs authorities, including Customs and Trade Minister Nurettin Canikli himself.

Heroin seized from Italy-bound orange shipment

Port authorities in Patra, western Greece, on Saturday seized more than 11 kilograms of heroin found hidden in a truck carrying crates of oranges bound for Italy.

The drugs were discovered by an x-ray van, which located 22 suspicious parcels packed into the cabin’s air-filtration system, just as the truck was about to board to a ferry to Italy.

Truck carrying chemicals overturns near Thessaloniki

A truck with Bulgarian license plates overturned on the Egnatia Highway, near the junction for Thessaloniki, early on Wednesday, shedding large quantities of hospital supplies including chemicals onto the road surface.

The truck driver, who lost control of his vehicle under circumstances that remained unclear, was hospitalized for treatment to minor injuries.

Safety regulations questioned after truck hits Istanbul overpass

Questions have been raised over the safety regulations regarding trucks following a Sept. 3 accident in which a truck hit an overpass in Istanbul, killing one person.

Although is a defined standard for the operation of dump trucks, according to the Standards Institute (TSE), primary bodies that check the vehicles before they hit the road fail to follow these regulations. 

Death toll reaches 33 in Diyarbakır tanker accident

The Death toll from a tanker truck accident on July 22 in southeast Turkey has increased to 33 with the deaths of three more patients in different hospitals this week.

Police officer Akif Çakır died Aug. 5. Two injured passengers, Özlem Şimal and Ahmet Şen, who were being treated in hospitals in Adana and Ankara died on Aug. 6.
